Why Subscribe to An Inquiry into Money

An Inquiry into Money’ is a series of essays on the history, nature, and theories about money and payment systems. I was driven by my curiosity on a multidisciplinary research expedition into the world of History, Economics, Finance, Philosophy, Culture, and Religion, simply to answer some very basic questions like - What really is Money? Why is it the way it is? What events and people shaped it? Where is it going?

Each week, I will be analyzing historical and recent events not only from a Monetary Theory, Macroeconomic and Financial perspective but also from a Cultural, Religious, Anthropological, and Sociological lens in an attempt to answer these questions. I hope to build an understanding of the fundamentals of money and hopefully predict future trends.

But this by no means is a history lesson and I am no historian(or an economist, lawyer, or a sociologist for that matter). It is an attempt to revisit history in order to introduce theoretical concepts to its readers and make them curious about money. Every week, I will pick a historical event or perhaps even a recent event in order to discuss and explain the concepts that were at play behind the scenes at the time of the event along with references to that week’s news which may be relevant to the topic.

Although I will make every attempt to follow a chronology I will not be strictly sticking to a timeline as I also want to make sure that the theoretical concepts are also introduced in a logical sequence. It is going to be a tough balancing act for me to follow but I promise to do my best.

Each essay will have references that will help you to further advance your research if you wish to dig deeper into a particular topic. I hope everyone will find something valuable when they read ‘An Inquiry into Money’, whether you are a fan of Adam Smith or Karl Marx, an MMTer or an Anti-MMTer, a history buff, an economist, a Finance professional, or simply a layman like me with an insatiably curious and analytical mind.
